    Triton Accelerator accelerates certain text and graphics on web pages. With Triton Accelerator you will notice a significantly faster experience when you visit web sites, send and receive your e-mail, and perform many other Web-based activities. Triton Accelerator will not currently accelerate file downloads such as music files, or streaming video or audio media.

  4. How does Triton Accelerator work?
    Triton's Accelerator uses 2 steps, cache and compression, to deliver your speed improvements.

    1. With traditional Internet activities, all text and graphics that make up web pages get sent in multiple packets from the requested server to Triton, then to you, remaining in their original form. The number of data packets needed to build your screen images, and the speed of your connection determines how fast a page will load. Triton's Accelerator compresses the data before loading the packets, using a proprietary technology. This compression process reduces the number of packets by as much as 80%. The data is decompressed at your end and displayed. (If you could dehydrate tomatoes before loading them on a truck, then rehydrate them into full tomatoes when you unloaded them at your destination, you would be able to get a lot more tomatoes moved in a single truckload!)

    2. We try not to do the same job twice, too. We cache (store) elements of popular web sites on our servers (only one step away from you), shortening the distance you must travel to visit these sites--which speeds up delivery. With time, your Accelerator will perform even better--regardless of the amount of compression you choose. Because, with every site viewed by our users, it means more images that we have "on hand" for someone's next session. So, instead of making all those stops--going to the farmer for your potatoes, the butcher for your meat, the cobbler for your shoes, and the tailor for your shirt, today, we're the new department store across the street. We probably have what you want here-- and will save you lots of time!

    If you have a slow Internet connection (such as a dial-up or wireless connection) with bandwidth of less than 300Kbps, you will experience a significant degree of acceleration using Triton Accelerator.

  6. What types of content does Triton Accelerator Web Accelerator speed up?

    Triton Accelerator significantly speeds up web page access.  To achieve this speed up, proprietary lossless compression is applied to text, html, xml, javascript and style sheets.  Proprietary image compression is applied to gif images, jpeg images and Flash content.

    Triton Accelerator also accelerates email traffic (POP3 and SMTP)using lossless compression.

    Triton Accelerator does NOT speed up file downloads (over FTP or file sharing programs), streaming audio/video and HTTPS (secure web sites).

    Start Netscape Navigator and browse as you normally would. Triton Accelerator is launched automatically every time Windows starts. It operates in the background to accelerate your web connection. No user intervention is required.

  2. Can I use Triton Accelerator with other browsers such as Opera or Mozilla?

    Yes. Triton Accelerator works with any web browser that allows you to specify an HTTP proxy. You must set the HTTP proxy host to be "localhost" and the port number to be "5400" (without quotes). Consult your browser's documentation for additional information.

  4. Does Triton Accelerator speedup email?

    Yes. Triton Accelerator can reduce the amount of time it takes to send and receive email. Triton Accelerator accelerates email transparently without any user intervention, so you can use your mail program exactly as you normally would. It is compatible with any POP3/SMTP client, including Outlook Express, Eudora and Netscape Mail. Email acceleration is disabled by default.

  5. Does Triton Accelerator speedup my secure (HTTPS) transactions such as my web-banking?

    Triton Accelerator does not accelerate secure transactions. Secure web sites will continue to work by bypassing the acceleration component.

  7. What system requirements are necessary to use Triton Accelerator?

    The recommended system requirements are a Pentium PC 200MHz with 64MB of RAM and at least 5 MB of hard-disk space.
    On a Macintosh computer a PowerPC G3 processor with OS X 10.2 (or later) with 333Mhz and 128MB RAM and 6MB of hard drive space is the minimum requirement.

During installation, a dialog appears warning that e-mail acceleration is disabled because another LSP (Layered Service Provider) was detected.

Solution: This dialog is just a warning stating that e-mail acceleration is not possible on this computer due to a software conflict. Note that web acceleration will still work fine.

If you would like to have e-mail acceleration, the other LSPs must be removed and the Accelerator client must be reinstalled. Examples of other applications that use LSPs are the New.net client, older versions of Zone Alarm, and Venturi Accelerator software.

If you are unsure what LSPs are installed on the system then the following utility can be used to list and remove entries from the computer’s LSP chain:
