What is ISDN?
ISDN is a broadband alternative that is capable of 128k uploads and downloads. ISDN is a separate phone/data line that must be ordered from and installed by SBC.
As an intelligent data line it can serve as your Internet connection, yet can also replace your regular voice phone line, allowing both functions simultaneously.
(The voice line function must be requested at time of order.)
ISDN has 2 phone lines or channels as they're called. Each channel has the capability of 64k, two channels combined equaling 128k. When you are using the Internet both channels are active giving you a pure and clean 128k connection. If a voice call comes in on your phone line while surfing, one channel frees up to handle the voice call. Normal surfing of the web is at 64k.
How do I order ISDN?
First you need to call ATT at 800-832-6328 for details, cost of the line, and availability to your location (It is not distance sensitive, like DSL).
How much will SBC charge me?
An ISDN 2 channel data line from SBC is about $35/month plus installation charges.
What equipment will I need?
You will need:
1. A network interface card (NIC Card)
2. An ISDN modem (terminal adaptor). We recommend buying a refurbished Lucent Pipeline.
How much will Triton charge me?
Other ISP's normally charge $50 per month for ISDN service, but right now you can take advantage of our ISDN at the SAME COST AS OUR DIALUP! (MI area's only)
